I have now been blogging for over a year and I decided it was about time that I write this blog about all the things I have learned and let anyone who is interested in on my top tips for becoming a fashion blogger. I decided to finally commit to being a fashion blogger after probably a year or so of debating whether to or not. I vacillated back and forth with the idea for so many reasons, until January 1st, 2016 and I said to my then boyfriend, now husband, lets just do this. So with camera in hand and our tiny balcony at our fingertips, we started to shoot different looks.  I have to admit, at first, I was terrified! I was so scared to go out into the “real world” and actually take any photos. I thought people would make fun of me, laugh at me, or just think I was completely crazy! Little by little, we made our way from our small balcony, to around our apartment complex, where to my surprise, people were actually quite kind and sweet when we were taking photos. After over a year of blogging, my husband and I now go all over the place to take a good photo. We have both gotten over a lot of our fears and just embraced the process. If you are new to blogging or want to make the steps towards becoming a fashion blogger, than you will want to read on about my tips and tricks on how to become a fashion blogger.

Tip #1: Just Start!!!

This is probably my biggest piece of advice for anyone that wants to start blogging or maybe started but stopped; you need to sit down and just say to yourself, you know what I’m going to do this! STOP with the self-doubt and just get started. The sooner you get started the more looks and content you will have and the more opportunities you will get. So stop with the negative talk and tell yourself, I CAN DO THIS!!!!

Tip #2: If you are going to use WordPress, PLEASE use and NOT

I am letting you know this from experience, I thought, hey I can just use for my blog! After all, it was free and isn’t free always better? So like a dork, I signed up for and for awhile that worked out fine for me, until it was time to up my blogging game and get a good theme and actually make things happen. That was when I realized I needed to switch my blog from to Let me tell you, I wish I had just used from the beginning. Not only are there so many other features but it makes your life so much easier. Also, the process of switching things over for me was a pain in the butt and I wish I had just used from the get go!

Tip #3: Consistency

I hate to say this because I am not always consistent with my posting, nor am I one to really set a calendar and stick to it, however, I do suggest being consistent with posting your content. There have been a few times when life just gets the best of me and I don’t get to post any new content for some time and let me tell you I totally see a difference in views and interaction. I really cannot stress enough that if you want to be even a little bit successful with blogging, you have to produce new content pretty consistently. At the same time, be realistic with yourself and realize that yes you probably already have a full time job but if you want blogging to go anywhere you have to make some time for it here and there. It is all about balance.

Tip #4: Have Patience

This one is a hard one for me. Being patient in a world where everyone expects instant gratification it can be hard to sit back and be patient. However, in blogging I can guarantee you that you will have to learn to be patient. When I first started, I posted my first look to my blog and to Instagram and along came Ross Dress for Less and asked to re-post it. I thought to myself, wow, how cool, all I have to do is post a picture and companies will want to re-post them. Well I was totally wrong! I just happened to be lucky that Ross asked me that after my first post, and just so the universe could put me in my place, Ross never ended up posting the photo. Go figure! However, that does not mean that it won’t ever happen. Companies will start to find you if you keep posting. Just keep posting looks that you are proud of and keep tagging the companies in the photos and they will eventually see you!

Tip #5: Build REAL Relationships

One thing I did not realize when I started this journey was that I would actually meet real friends! I have met some super amazing women and it is all because of blogging. It is so cool because we have this common ground to bond over. The main piece of advice though that I can give you is to build REAL relationships. Do not go around trying to say something super generic to other bloggers on Instagram or anywhere else. For example, once in awhile I will get a girl who will comment on Instagram and say something to me like, “Hey, I just liked a bunch of your pictures, will you follow me?” I literally hate when people do this. Not only is it disingenuous but it instantly puts a bad taste in my mouth. Instead, just be real and say something that you really mean. Trust me, people can see that and will not want to follow you or become your friend because you are going to come across as fake.

Those are my top tips for now! If you enjoyed reading this, please let me know down below as I would love to hear from you! I also may follow up this post with further tips and tricks that I have learned, so make sure to stay tuned! As always, thank you for stopping by! xoxo, Amber
